Queen Creek Water Fee — What It Costs Your Yard | MyWaterBudget
Queen Creek · Proposed Water Resource Fee

The new water fee lands on your sprinklers.

Queen Creek is proposing a new fee on every 1,000 gallons, starting in 2027 and more than tripling by Year 6. About two-thirds of the town's water goes outside. Here's what it costs your home — and how much of it your yard can avoid.

What's happening

The short version, from the Town's own numbers.

  • What it is. A new Water Resource Fee on every 1,000 gallons you use. It pays for long-term water the Town is buying — mostly from the Harquahala basin — about $730 million over 100 years.
  • It replaces CAGRD. Most homes (about 88%) pay a CAGRD replenishment charge today. The new fee replaces it and applies to every customer.
  • When. Public hearing and possible adoption on Nov 18, 2026. Earliest start is Jan 27, 2027, so the first bills with the fee arrive around March 2027.
  • Why the yard matters. Sewer customers get a credit for water that goes back down the drain. Water on your lawn and plants doesn't go down the drain.

Your home

What the fee costs you — and what you can avoid.

Your bill shows gallons used. Use a typical month. No bill handy? Leave it at 15,000 — that's close to a typical single-family home here.

Septic homes don't get the sewer credit, so they pay the full rate.
Town average is 67%. Bigger lawn or pool → higher.

Where to look

You can't do much about the fee. You can do a lot about the gallons.

💧

Most yards overwater

Clocks set in June and never touched. Spray heads on drip-friendly beds. In 18 years of audits, 20–35% too much water is normal.

🔧

Leaks hide in the ground

A broken lateral or a stuck valve can run thousands of gallons a month. With the fee, that leak gets expensive fast.

📅

Schedule to the weather

Plants need about a quarter of July's water in January. A schedule built from local weather and your plants cuts gallons without killing the yard.

1

Shut off everything inside

No faucets, ice maker, washer or dishwasher running. Find the Town meter box near the curb.

2

Read the meter, run one zone 10 minutes

Write down the reading, run a single zone from the controller for exactly 10 minutes, then read it again.

3

Divide by 10

That's the zone's gallons per minute. If the dial moves with nothing running, you have a leak — call someone now.

A local irrigation guy — and a Town water customer too.

I'm Robert. We've raised our kids in Queen Creek since 2013. I ran Water Wise Sprinkler Repair here for 18 years before selling it, and I'm a Captain with the Phoenix Fire Department.
